FCP X in "cloned" disk displays dark viewer

[FCP X 10.4 on High Sierra 10.13.3 on a late 2009 iMac] This I hope is interesting: FCP X functioning perfectly on my hard drive. I cloned my disk with CC Cloner. Booted from the clone and opened FCP X. All working well except that the viewer is very dark. The clips in the browser are normal, but when selected, both the clip preview on the browser and the viewer darken. When viewed in full screen, the preview remains dark. When I import media, the clips in the media import section exhibit the same behaviour; they darken when I select them and lighten again when de-selected. When I boot back to my original disk, FCP X is normal. If I boot to another iMac with the cloned disk, the same behaviour occurs. Since this is a clone, all settings from the preferences panel are the same.

Strange. What gives?

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), [late 2009 model]
