reset settings vs erase settings

There really is no such thing as erasing settings and only settings. You can erase all content and settings which totally erases the device.

Resetting all settings returns the device to out of the box condition with regard to all of the items in the settings app. Your preferred wallpaper, privacy, location services, notifications, WiFi Passwords and so on will have to be entered again if you reset all settings, but it does not totally erase the device.
