Safari does not open homepage

I am using an iMAC Retina 5K running High Sierra 10.13.3. In the last week Safari hangs up when going to my homepage. I have cleared history, cookies, cache. checked performance of DNS proxies. So far, nothing has worked. I have set performances various ways. When I do this it works until I quit Safari and open it again. Example I have cross-site tracking on and off.Block pop-up windows on and off. Preload top hits on and off. I have disabled prefetching. it only works until I quit Safari. I have this on a MacBook Pro also. I really just need ideas and guidance on what to try next. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have ran EtreCheck and the report follows.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I believe the problem is solved. I listed everything I had done and that had been suggested. Looking at the list I found one obvious item that I had missed and it explains why it was happening on my wife's MacBook pro also. We use a home wifi network and have had recent power problems. I ghad never reset the router. When I did Safari started loading theme page correctly. I am sorry to have bothered everyone but you were all useful. I now have list of things to reset when problems occur. Thank you.

Hey there, Chuck9988.

I see that Safari on your iMac isn't working as expected. It's not opening the page that you've set as your Homepage. Good job on the troubleshooting you've already performed and I'm happy to help.

If Safari doesn‘t load a page or webpage items are missing -- This article has other steps for you to use to get Safari working as expected again.

Let me know how that goes.

Take care!

Hey, thanks for the ideas but they did not solve the problem. The only extension I have is 1Password and I turned it off and it still occurred. No parental controls. No filters or AV software. I did remove all data from my selected homepage site but it still hung up. I also changed my homepage from AOL to Yahoo and then it happens on Yahoo but not on AOL. I have also noticed that each time I change something and quit Safari and then restart it works the first time and then becomes intermittent. Any other ideas? Thanks again.

I have a Mac OS High Sierra version 10.13.3 MacPro desktop it happen to me once. Set your homepage.

You can set any webpage as your homepage, and have it shown when you open a new window or a new tab.

1. Choose Safari > Preferences, then click General.

2. In the Homepage field, enter a webpage address. To simply use the webpage you're currently viewing, click Set to

Current Page.

3. Choose when your homepage is shown.

*Open new windows with your homepage. Click the "New windows open with" pop -up menu, then choose Homepage.

*Open new tabs with your homepage: Click the "New tabs open with" pop-up menu, then choose Homepage. It works for my desktop computer.

You have a iMac and I have a desktop and it work for me not sure on iMac, but you can try.

Sounds like your Safari preferences file has become corrupt.

In finder click on Go in the menubar, now click on Go To Folder, enter the text ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist press Go, a new Finder window will open with the file highlighted, move it onto your Desktop. Restart the Mac, a new Safari preference file will be generated. Open Safari and go to its Preferences now input the settings you want particularly your Homepage details. close Safari and then reopen it to see if the settings have stuck. If you are happy then you can delete the original plist file.
