iTunes Encrypted Backup

I encrypted an iTunes backup of an iPhone 4S and lost the password. I understand that I can't recover the iTunes backup.

To fix the problem, I did the following

1. Created an iCloud backup from iPhone 4s

2. Deleted all iTunes encrypted backups from iTunes account

3. Erased all content and settings on iPhone 4s

4. Restored from iCloud backup to the same iPhone 4s

The problem is that when I connect to iTunes is does not give me the option of unchecking the 'Encrypt iPhone Backup'. There is no current backup on iTunes and it says the phone has never been backed up to iCloud.

The restored data on the iPhone 4s is correct. How do remove the encryption option?

iOS 9.3.5

iTunes 12. 7.3.46

Any help would be appreciated!

"To turn off iTunes backup encryption, uncheck the Encrypted backup box in iTunes and enter the password. If you can't rememb"er your password, you have two options:

If you have an iCloud account, you can use iCloud to backup and restore instead of using iTunes.

If you don't have an iCloud account, the only way to turn off encrypted backups is to erase your device and set it up as new."
