Well, the way I do it (but I only have 37,500 photos going back to 1851 to the present day!) is to sort them in folders by year, and in each folder chronologically, both on the hard drive (with several copies on different external disks) and the same system in iPhoto.
Saving individual photos by annual groups, to an external hard drive.

I need more basic information on saving my selection of pictures, but not my entire library, to an external hard drive. The purpose is to keep my pictures saved by date, into annual groupings. So as an example I have 60,000 pictures on my current Ma
