Since upgrading to High Sierra, lost scanner connection.

Upgraded an iMac to High Sierra. CanoScan 8800 was working fine before upgrade. Tried to reinstall Scanner but it does not show up in Add a Printer/Scanner window in System Preferences. Canon states that no software is available to download for High Sierra, it's included in OSX. A different CanoScan 9000 works fine on second iMac with High Sierra. (Did the usual unplugging/plugging scanner, power off on, rebooting iMac etc.) Next steps anyone?

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

The scanner may be just old, if that is the case then you will need to use VueScan. Please refer to see if your scanner is supported. They have a free trial and if it works then you just purchase the app. The link is:

VueScan Scanner Software for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux

BTW, this happens with all older scanners the manufacturers simply drop support on them.
