How to create "table of contents" from text in a table created in pages

Hi,

Not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere... did my best to find similar question

I have created a table in pages (6.3). The table includes text that I wish to include in a "table of contents". The table goes over several pages and there are several headings I wish to include in one table. Is this possible?

I have attempted generating table of contents and included (ticked) used paragraph styles but I get the message "the table of contents is empty because you aren't using the paragraph styles set to appear in it".
