no audio output with iphone connected

My iphone is running ios11, my Mac is running High Sierra. I have the iphone connected with a USB cable and in Audio MIDI Setup it is enabled as an input device. I have audio output set to speakers.

I am trying to record audio from the iPhone. The audio does record using QuickTime. However, while the audio from the iPhone is playing there is no sound.

How can I get to hear the sound while it is recording?
