Sorting and displaying downloaded documents by date downloaded

How do I get downloaded files to sort by date added so I can find newly downloaded files easily? I am using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, iOS 10, 10.10.5

If you open the Downloads folder in Finder you can set the order in which the files are displayed by pressing Command-J to get the View options up select Sort By Date Added. Or from the Dock Control-click on the Downloads folder and then select how you want it to display.

Thanks Allan. This was useful in figuring out how to sort by day opened which is a huge improvement. At some point in the past I could get the download folder to just show documents in order of most to least recently downloaded. Is there any way to do that or do I just have to keep resorting in the finder file? Thanks again for the very quick response!

Thank you so much! This really helped. I can at least get them to appear this way in finder. I was trying the document icon at the bottom of the screen but couldn't find any functions to sort. Thanks again!

Is your Downloads folder in the Dock, if so press and hold the Control key whist clicking on the folder you should get a dialogue like this.
