MacOS High Sierra Installation Failure

My MacBook Pro 13"shut down before completing the latest automated update of MacOS. Error message reads:

Cannot find "/System/Installation,Packages/OSinstall.mpkg" and "restart"

If restarted, the Apple appears with the moving horizontal bar, pauses at 99% then reboots and repeats the error message.

I am now rebooted into Recovery Mode, but I am traveling without a MacOS thumb drive.

Can I download MacOS to this computer in Recovery Mode?
