Apple Pencil not charging

i just got my Apple Pencil today. It came with 4% charge. I connected it to my iPad Pro and then removed it and set it to charge using a lightning cable as instructed. It has been about an hour now. The widget on my iPad Pro shows that the pencil is only 5% charged. Forums mention that full charge takes about 20 to 30 minutes. have I received a dud or am I doing something wrong? Help!!

Hello jnarasimhan,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you have plugged your Apple Pencil into a Lightning cable to allow it charge, but after an hour it still shows only 5% charged. What happens when you plug it into your iPad Pro? The following article has information that you may find helpful:

Use Apple Pencil with iPad Pro - Apple Support

Charge your Apple Pencil

For fast charging, plug your Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad Pro. If the battery runs out, you can charge it from your iPad Pro for 15 seconds and get 30 minutes of use.*

You can also plug your Apple Pencil into a USB port with the Apple Pencil Charging Adapter and a Lightning to USB cable.

Best Regards.
