If I change my iTunes account to the UK (from US) can I bring my UK purchases into my iTunes library?

So I live in the US, but I want content only available in the iTunes UK Store. I know I would have to change my Apple Astor’s account settings to a new country (UK) and provide a valid UK credit card and address but can I then merge all items together into my iTunes library. I can’t stand these blasted country distribution restrictions! If BBC uses local UK contributions to produce their content, why not just charge a fee for non-UK residents To offset the cost? (Out of state tuition, anyone?)

See also Change your Apple ID country or region - Apple Support. Note that purchases are tied to the store used to obtain them. Updating apps purchased from more than one country's store involves switching stores again. Certain activities in a store can also tie you to that store for 90 days, which may limit the ability to redownload from the other. See View and remove your associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support for details.
