MacBook Pro 2012 Retina - fans constantly on high speed without cpu load

I never had problems with my MacBook Pro's fans - until now.

Suddenly, without any reason, the fans kicked into high gear and have been running full speed - even if there's only a 10% CPU load, even when all applications are closed.

How you resolve this? Resetting the NVRAM? Resetting the SMC?

What is the reason for this malfunction?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS Sierra (10.12.6), 512 Gb SSD, 16 Gb RAM,

Reset SMC. Choose the method for “If the battery is non-removable”.
