How can I remove a WiFi network, to use a new password

I had a lot of trouble with removing a WiFi network in order to lose a cached password which had become invalid.

A prior thread shows that this problem is not uncommon. How can I forget a hotel wifi network?

The action that resolved this for me was simple, but easy to miss, especially as some documented answers omit the last step. Don't forget to Apply the Remove:

Network Preferences >

Advanced >

[find network] >

[press minus] >

[misleading dialog that tells you if you select Remove then the password of this network will be removed from the keychain and therefore will be forgotten by all using applications] >

Remove >

Network Preferences >

Apply >

[Reconnect to network]
