It is possible that the battery wont take a charge anymore . If it is the original battery from 2008 then I would say you are long overdue for a replacement . It could also be in the charging circuit on the logic board or in the battery that has failed . There are several possibilities that it could be and without further information it would only be a guess with the most general diagnosis . You could take it to a Apple store or shop for diagnosis , if you had a spare battery you could see if swapping it out fixes the problem . I have had iBooks and Powerbooks as well as most laptops when the battery is old enough to simply not take charges anymore and getting them to take a charge is very tricky . Dead batteries are also unsafe and could leak or expand . Its battery is replaceable and you can find some on ebay or amazon as well as reputable dealers like dv warehouse (A1280-Laptop-Battery-for-MacBook-Aluminum-Unibody---NEW-p-36777.html ) or OWC (Search Results for battery at MacSales.com ) , Apple store may or may not carry it because of its age but could help in ordering for you .
