installing high sierra-problems

Hi everyone, I am having some trouble updating to high sierra.

I am currently on El Capitan.

I tried updating first with the auto update feature, but was met with the apple logo frozen, the computer would not boot for days. I had to use internet recovery to get my macbook pro working again.

In applications, I have the option to install High sierra, so tried again today.

Everything seemed to work, telling me how many minutes etc. The mac restarted, and I thought great!

But, checking about this mac, it says I am still on el capitan. I would rather be on the latest mac OS, although if I can't update El capitan is OK, I would rather have a mac than one that doesn't work.

My model is a mid 2010 macbook pro, 13 inch 2.4GHZ.

Thank you all, Conan.

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2), null
