My mac makes a weird honking noise

Sometimes it honks once and sometimes it honks 5 times in a row...it's really strange. Can't pin-point the reason to this. I notice when I have outlook open it tends to make that noise, I thought it might be the RAM acting up. Not sure what to do at this point. I've deleted and archived a lot of files, is there anyway to diagnose this?
