If I upgrade to high sierra can I keep all my softwares after formatting?

My IMac is failing at start and acting weird, so I want to have a clean install and maybe upgrade to high sierra, my question is can I keep all my softwares regardless of how they where installed, and have them migrated to the next OS? If so, how? Time machine...? Or am I going to re install everything from a scratch again?

iMac, iOS 10.1

If you are doing a clean install because of problems you'll want to test with just default Mac OS apps. If you use Migration Assistant or Time Machine you'll probably migrate the problem back.

But before you go to that trouble, please download and run EtreCheck, created by one of own colleagues here in ASC. It is a diagnostic tool that's very useful to us in finding problems. Also it will give us further specs on your Mac. After it runs post the log file here. It will contain no personal information.

Hopefully, we'll be able to see what is causing the issues.

Hey thank you very much for ttaking the time to respond, I am downloading the Etrecheck as I write this... Will post the log shortly... As an additional piece of info I can tell that I installed/uninstalled the K9 (http://www1.k9webprotection.com/) which resulted a pain in the... neck, but I reckon that where a lot of things started to go astray with my IMac.

Hey macjack is this the report you need...?

EtreCheck version: 4.1 (4A162)

Report generated: 2018-03-01 12:48:21

Download EtreCheck from https://etrecheck.com

Runtime: 5:45

Performance: Below Average

Problem: Other problem

Description:

Mac is not being able to start properly, getting stuck half way while starting, to fix this I am having to restart in safe mode… Then some apps (particularly SC2) is not being able to run well. I installed/Uninstalled http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ recently and I am afraid this is what it may be causing all the hassle.

You have Spigot adware. Uninstall this. I suggest you use Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes was developed by one of our own colleagues here in ASC and is about the most proven anti-malware software for Mac.

Uninstall Avast as per the developer's instructions. No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system.

Also you are running BitTorrent. Torrent are a great way to get adware as it hides in the downloads and you'd never know it was there. Uninstall BitTorrent.

After that run another Etrecheck report and post the results.
