Thunderbolt port

I Purchased a Thunderbolt to HDMI Cable and it do not work , so I purchased a thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor to use a HDMI cable I know work, Neither one works ? starting to think it is thunderbolt port which I have never used on my late 2011 Macbook Pro , Are there known issues with TB-HDMI ? What is the best way to figure out if Thunderbolt port is working ? Thanks for any help

once you connect a device to that thunderbolt port then ASP should be showing that a device is connected. "no device connected" usually would apply if you had two thunderbolt ports, one with something connected and the other nothing connected. In you Mac you have one TB port and it should always show something is connected when in fact it is...

Try and SMC reset , see what happens.


apple doc:

  1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
  2. After your Mac shuts down, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds.
    If you have a MacBook Pro with Touch ID, the Touch ID button is also the power button.
  3. Release all keys.
  4. Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.
