Is this ipad 1 or 3 and how i can update it

Its an iPad 3rd generation. The last version of IOS that the Ipad 3rd Gen supported was 9.3.5, released in August 2016. IOS 10 was released thereafter. This iPad had the A5x chip and could not be updated to IOS 10 or later. I had a 16GB version of the 3rd Gen that I used until late 2017, when I gave it to my kid to watch videos on. It was great unit and I would have liked to see it upgraded to IOS 10, but I think it would have done poorly trying to run IOS 11.

It's an iPad 3 and can't be updated past 9.3.5.
