Use Airport Time Capsule as external drive

I am trying to use an older Airport Extreme with Time Capsule on a Google wi-fi router. It has worked on two MacBook Pros but I can't get it to work with a MacBook Air (High Sierra v.10.13.3). I cannot see the drive in Finder to connect and set up with Time Machine.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Aint apple stuff fun??

Reset the airport to factory and start over. It definitely should show the network tab.. and it is generally easier to configure it in situ and wired correctly.. so use ethernet from WAN port of the Extreme to the main router.

This is still not a great setup and the speed is likely to be terrible.

See https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3395

And that is the latest Airport.. not an old model.

Good luck!!
