Not able to hear sound from ipad

I'm not able to hear sound from my music or youtube. I can hear ringtone and keyboard clicks. So I know my speaker is working. I have cleaned the headphone port of any debris. I have plugged in the headphones and they do not work. I have restarted the ipad multiple times. I have reset the network setting. I have reset all settings. Also when I double tap the home key it does not bring up a task bar, I'm not sure where that would be however, when I push up the carrot on the bottom of the screen it does bring up a play button, airplane symbol, wifi etc. There is not a volume slide. The bluetooth is off, the airplane mode is not on. So I'm out of ideas. Any suggestions would be great.
