Release activation lock

Erased iPhone 5 then deleted ‘find my phone,’ in order to sell it, however it remained in activation lock as if it were lost and erased. Apple ID and password changed since original purchase several years ago (tried various combinations to no avail) and no longer possess purchase receipt. Is there anyway in which I can deactivate or release the activation lock?

If you have the original receipt from Apple or Apple authorized

iPhone retailer showing the serial number of the iPhone, take

that receipt + government issued photoID + the iPhone to the

nearest Apple store where they may assist you. It is recommended

that you have a Genius Bar reservation to avoid delay at the store.
