Time Machine - Backup hard drive and SSD -

I have my Time Machine connected to a 2TB Seagate External backup hard drive. I would like to use a SSD drive instead. How can I transfer all my backups dating back 18 months to a new SSD drive and continue backing up fro where the Seagate left off?

Do you really need to keep 18 months of back ups? What could you possibly have that you would need to restore from back that far - if you even remember what's on those back ups? 🙂

You might be able to copy the Backups.backupdb folder from your Seagate to the SSD drive. First, remove the Seagate as your back up drive in the Time Machine preferences. Then, after you copy the folder to the SSD, mount the SSD and select it as your back up drive. Test to see what happens.
