Does Safari tracking protection work?

Yesterday I was using Safari to browse three specific products on a web shop. Safari Tracking protection is enabled on both mobile and Macbook. I am not logged on Facebook from Safari.

Today my Facebook feed serves an ad from ad.doubleclick.net, containing identically those three products I browsed yesterday.

I am logging in on Facebook from a Chrome browser only. I am using PrivacyBadger on my Chrome and Firefox browsers. I am not logged in on Google from Safari on neither Mac or iphone.

I am tempted to conclude that Safari tracking protection does not work. Or is there something I have missed?

Be sure to keep your Facebook logged in from Safari browser, read instructions below...

Go to Safari browser, click Safari toolbar:

  • Click Preferences... scrollbar
  • Click Privacy menubar
  • Check field Prevent cross-site tracking into Website tracking
  • Check field Ask websites not to track me into Website tracking

Please disabled the Safari Tracking-protection when not in use...

Thanks so much! 🙂

Ok thanks. So Safari still allows "indirect" third party cookies from e.g doubleclick to track me for a certain time? Its not the ads I'm worried about. I accept ads to a certain degree in order to access free stuff. My issue is all those unknown third party tracker companies harvesting information about me, enabling them to use big data and statistics to infer more about me than I realize myself. And what will they use that knowledge for?

The cookie timeout in Safari does not prevent them from continually adding personal info to their data pool right?

In comparison, it seems that the Firefox built-in tracking manager can be set to block all tracking attempts? That will be my choice of browser from now on then.
