Solution to: Apple 30" Cinema Display Display Switching off when USB is connected

Hello people!

I have seen that many people have this problem (e.g. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1923154), and that nobody so far had a solution: when you connect the Apple Cinema Display using a mini displayport to dual-link DVI adapter (hereafter dual-link adapter) with both video and USB, sometimes the Cinema Display goes blank.

I had this problem a few times, and now I think I found a solution.

First disconnect totally the Cinema Display from the dual-link adapter and from the Mac. Then perform the following actions in this exact sequence:

(1) Connect the DVI adapter of the Cinema Display to the dual-link adapter

(2) Connect the USB plug from the dual-link adapter to your Mac

(3) Connect the USB cable from the Cinema Display cable to the dual-link adapter

(4) Finally, connect the display port of the dual-link adapter to the Mac

I would love to know that it works for you too! 🙂

all the best,

leonardo
