Youtube app won’t download

I have an iPhone 7plus and you tube app will not download. It updates but will not open. If I click on a YouTube link it opens in safari TIA

YouTube app not playing video on IPad Pro 12.9 Hello the YouTube app seems fine loading everything else but when I click on play no video plays. No error either, just keeps loading.
