Should you be able to purchase from any itune store world wide?

Here is my beef. Doesn't matter where you live in the world. If you can afford the cost of purchasing a TV show or movie in another country's site in their currency there should be no problem. ITunes has its sisters in alot of other countries. Aslong as you have a valid credit card and email address what's the problem?

No, due to licensing (and potentially also a country's laws). Content providers want control over how/where their content is available, and a particular album or film etc. could have different rights-holders for different countries (and potentially content may be made available exclusively in a particularly country with a different store). Content providers license Apple to sell their content on a country-by-country basis, each country therefore has to have its own iTunes store, and you have to be in a country (with a billing address in that country) to use its store.

If there is a particular item that isn't available in your country contact its rights-holder.

Apple or iTunes have made themselves world wide. If a consumer chooses to legally purchase content from another site so be it. It should not matter what agreements have been made. For example Amazon started in the US and is international so in the past I have purchased dvd from the Amazon site in the UK and delivered here. It should be no different where iTunes is concerned. It's called free enterprise.
