AirPods won't automatically connect with my watch

My Apple watch won't automatically pair with my already paired AirPods to my connected phone. I had to manually connect them. I don't understand why. I waited, unpaired from both and still, nothing. If anyone could help me, please do because I have the same issue on my Macbook Pro (Early 2011 13 Inch) running MacOS Siera 10.12.6

Apple Watch, watchOS 4.2.3

Does anyone else have trouble connecting their airpods pro to their mac after connecting them to their iphone and apple watch? I tried disconnecting from the iphone and watch but they still wont connect. What should I do? What should I do?
