Slow iMac

Dear community

i bought an iMac in late 2015. I have found it runs quite slowly particularly on startup of apps. Could it be because for last 10 years whenever I have bought a new Mac I have used migration assistant to copy across my whole HD and settings? Therefore the current iMac is a clone of a clone of a clone of my old Laptop from 2007?

i have tried various things like disk repair and booting into safe mode as well as disabling all my login items but there is still often a lot of slowness. Any ideas?
