Looking at HomePod - Technical Specifications - Apple there is no specific mention of bit depth or sample rates that are supported, although the footnote to the FLAC entry suggests that AirPlay content might be transcoded.

Audio Formats

HE-AAC (V1), AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), protected AAC (from iTunes Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Apple Lossless, AIFF, WAV and FLAC2

2. AirPlay is used to stream content on iPhone to HomePod. Transcoding to a lossy format for streaming may occur.
