iphone downloading emails

I have a new Iphone 7 and for some reason it has started to download all my emails that I have ever received. The bulk of which have been deleted at some point in time. They just seem to keep reloading.

At present I am sitting with 20,000 plus emails!!!!!

What can I do to stop this from happening. Can anyone help please? 😕
