create custom template in Pages

I have a template I created a few years ago for Pages. It's very simple and is for straight text documents, no graphics. It contains the font style & size, margins, & tabs & not much else.

I'd like to include the bullet type that I usually use and a few other simple bells & whistles. How do I set those up in a template? Is it even possible?

When I edit the template, it seems I can only choose the bullet type to use if there's an actual bullet in the body of the template. Is it possible to create the template without a bullet in the body but specify which bullet to use *if* there's a bullet in the document being created from the template?

I know this sounds confusing, it isn't really; it's just difficult to explain without showing what I'm talking about.

I'm not only interested in bullets, just wanted to give an example of the type of item I'd like to include in a template.

Thank you!
