PowerBook Keys Not Typing

I have an old, reliable G4 PowerBook, however, two keys, the equal and letter "f" keys do not type. I can get one to work with repeated typing but it is getting harder and harder to use that key.

I have cleaned the keyboard completely and both keys will press up and down but won't type.

Please help.

Thanks in advance with assistance.

Hi, LDJ. I suspect your keyboard is indeed failing, and if that's the case, replacement is the only fix. Consult any or all of the following parts vendors and, if you wish, have a look on Ebay for a replacement KB:

http://www.pbparts.com (parts and repair work)
http://www.dttservice.com (parts and repair work)
http://www.powerbookresq.com (parts and repair work)
http://www.powerbookmedic.com (parts and repair work)
http://www.tekserve.com (parts and repair work)
http://www.ifixit.com (parts and excellent, illustrated online take-apart instructions)

Prices for the same parts vary WIDELY, so check around.

Hi Diane,

I'm not sure if you're looking for another opinion or what, but I concur with arnie and eww that it sounds like the keyboard or its cable or connector is failing. Have you tried a USB keyboard? I suspect that will work just fine, and if it does, it sounds like it's time for a new PB keyboard.

Edit: Diane or lisa, I see you've changed your post. Not sure what you mean by "activation key," but as I said, why not try a USB keyboard?
