I just had to reinstall itunes and now it won't open

Today I updated the software in my iphone thru the itunes app that was installed and working on my windows 10 HP laptop. That was successful. I closed the itunes on my laptop and an hour later decided to back up my phone. I tried to open itunes again and it wouldn't open, so I deleted it and downloaded itunes from the apple website. That was successful. I then tried to open itunes and I get an error message saying "the itunes library .itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes.....

What is going on and what should i do?

Hi, Ehines,

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you tried to open iTunes and it would not launch, so you deleted it from your Windows 10 PC and redownloaded it. Now when trying to open iTunes, your library.itl file cannot be opened and an error stating it was created with a newer version of iTunes displays. I'd be happy to help!

Based on what you've described, I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes again. This time, follow the steps exactly as outlined in Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows 7 and later - Apple Support , as there are several components associated with iTunes that must also be removed, and that must be done in a specific order.

Once iTunes and its components have been uninstalled completely, you can download the most current version of iTunes for your computer here: iTunes - Download iTunes Now - Apple . This will be the most up-to-date version directly from Apple, and therefore should be able to open your library file without issue.

Have a nice day!
