replaced hard drive in my iPod 80gb classic now cannot get iTunes to detect the device on my macbook

iPod classic, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

iTunes on my 2015 MacBook Air is not recognising my iPod Classic 160gb. I deleted some tracks from iTunes on my 2015 MacBook Air running macOS High Sierra v 10.13.6 and when I tried to update my iPod Classic 160gb, iTunes does not recognize the iPod. I have been doing this regularly (every couple of days) over the past few weeks as I attempt to clean out unwanted tracks and there has been no problem until today. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Allan

How do I get my macbook itunes 12.8 to recognize my ipod? My Itunes 12.8.150 won't recognize my ipod - first time this has happened, have tried 3 different plugs, says "because an invalid response was received from the device." Thanks
