I was using my Mac, I believe something popped up about a "library", then I noticed my screen saver was gone, ALL my desktop icons and files saved are gone, and the screen saver is the sierra mountain view picture.

What happened and how to I get it all back and where did it go?

Desktop view settings are not being saved? I recently recovered my Mac from a time machine back up and now when I turn my mac on my desktop is a mess. I have to clean up and change the view settings because each time i boot up because Icon positions and sizes are not memorized and are going back to some kind of default I tried booting up in safe mode but that made no difference. How do I get them to save like they used to? I'm using OS 10.12.6 -Metrobot
