Text Message Drafts disappear when I get a phone call, screen lock, etc.

I have an iphone x. When I start a long text response and get interrupted with a phone call, screen lock, etc. the draft of the text message is gone. Is it saved anywhere? Is there a way to save all drafts until they are sent or deleted?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. I understand that if you're composing a response to a text message if you receive a notification for another app at the same time or lock the screen, your draft is disappearing. I can certainly see why you reached out for assistance with this; I'm happy to help. To address your question regarding saved drafts; it's not currently possible to save drafts of text messages. Regarding the behavior you're experiencing, I'd recommend using the steps below to close the Messages app and then restart your iPhone. After this, test to see if you still experience the behavior.

From the Home screen, swipe up and pause.

Firmly touch and hold the app, then tap . You can also swipe up to close the app as soon as you see .

If you continue to have trouble could you let me know if you're replying directly to the message you were sent or are you opening a blank message to start your reply before adding the recipient?
