Lost space after a failed windows10 installation
Hello and good day,
TL;DR is there a simpler fix to regain lost space from a failed windows installation rather than backing up and reinstalling macOS?

Ok, I "obtained" another 500g drive for installer and will create a backup on the 1tb one

Let the TM backup finish. Once it is finished, disconnect the external TM disk, reboot and hold Command+Opt+R. You should see a spinning globe (and/or you will be asked you wireless password). This is Internet Recovery. This will give you a Recovery Console. Most of the work will need to be done in Utilities -> Terminal.
Do you have another device from which you can post replies, if the iMac is in Internet Recovery?

got back 1,8tb with the help of Apple support, now trying to get back the rest (partition manager shows full 2,12tb)
If you are in Internet Recovery, click on Utilities -> Terminal, run
diskutil list
Select and Copy (Command+C) the output, quit Terminal, start Safari (Get Help Online), Paste (Command+V) the output as a reply to this discussion. I am not sure what you mean by 1,8Tb vs 2,12 Tb.

This is the 'bad' configuration with the 230+ GB Recovery HD. If you have a TM backup, look at the steps for rebuilding the CS LV/LVG that I posted earlier, where you erase the SSD (disk0) and HDD (disk1).
Thank You alot, I decided I can live with 1,8tb till monday (that is today) when a senior advisor will guide me trough the steps, I wouldn't p$%y out if actually owned the machine, but it's company computer, so I better play it "safe", actually fingers itching to fix this "myself", but I don't want to have to take it to the store myself 🙂
But my fusion drive isn't split, it's just formatted wrong
I really appreciate Your help and will try the commands if they ditch me, it's just so I could say that I did everything as I was told later on 😀
So far I've got my 1.8tb and am very happy, thanks for being here with me
Supposed to get a call from Senior Advisor or to call him, but I'm reading that gParted let's you decrese macOS partition size, so my foolish plan would be to resize the recovery partition in gParted and then increase the main partition in macOS. I do realise that this is farther away from Apple's documentation, but would be a scenario with which I would be somewhat comfortable. Do You think it could work?
Thanks, maybe some other day - right now I'm feeling *super stoked* about having 1,88tb and a working Mac, I can't over emphasize. Apple Senior Advisor said that it's impossible to do without erasing the entire drive, too. Perhaps really gotta wait till I'm feeling adventurous again or just need a non-virtual machine windows 😀 Lesson learned tho, will pay more attention to TM. Theoretically speaking, if I mess up in the command line, will TM restore the fusion drive and everything back to normal?

Unless you erase the underlying disks, TM will return the Mac to the current state.
Okay, at least I got that right, so theoretically this has a chance of bricking my mac or can the installer re-create the fusion drive even if all else fails? Sorry bout the question bombing, I just need to understand how this works
In Internet Recovery, you can rebuild the Fusion drive as many times as you want. You can also install macOS on an external disk, if the internal disk has issues. Unless you use a welding torch or a sledge hammer, it is tough to 'brick' a Mac. 😉
whoo, thanks, calms me down a little
then I will most likely do this once the space runs out or even sooner, since I need windows sadly
now I just want to kick back and forget about drives and computers and stuff like that 🙂
It depends on the current state of your disk(s)? What is the year/model of your Mac (do not post the serial number) and the macOS version.
Also, see Bootcamp Assistant and 'lost' disk space .
