Why does my new phone say it hasn’t been completely restored?

A few weeks ago, I got a new iPhone 7 and restored it from my iPhone 5 that had current software. Just recently I went to download and install the newest software update, and it downloaded it but the install button is greyed out and it says I need to finish restoring it for it to install. I go into settings and into icloud backup and see thisUser uploaded file

How do I fix this so I can update my software? Preferably without having to restore from iCloud because it obviously hasn’t backed itself up since right before I got my new phone.

Thank you!

Hi Fishoboe21,

I understand that you are trying to update your iPhone, but it's giving you an error that it's still restoring from a backup. I'm happy to provide some help for this.

Depending on the amount of data you have, this process can take a long time. You can view the recommendation for this in the following article:

If iCloud Backup couldn’t be completed or you can’t restore - Apple Support

If the restore process takes a long time to finish

Stay connected to a reliable Wi-Fi network and a functional power source until the process finishes. The time it takes to restore from a backup depends on the size of your backup and the speed of your Wi-Fi network.

If you feel that this is taking too long, restart your iPhone and make sure you're connected to a strong Wi-Fi network:
