How do i default Apple TV audio to HomePod

I bought an Apple HomePod to specifically use with my AppleTV 4K. the connection is easy to make, but once i turn off the tv and the appletv goes to sleep it seems to disconnect or lose the connection because when i turn the tv back on and the appletv comes back on the screen I need to go back to settings and change audio back to HomePod. Any way to make it not do this?
