Does the iPhone X support an external microphone?

I have successfully used external mics on various older iPhones, but I cannot get a single one of them to work with my brand new iPhone X. Does the X even support an external mic? Who on earth would sell a $1000 phone with insane video quality that does not allow for audio quality better than the built-in mic? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
