earplugs volume control does not work

I often use the volume control on the earplugs to take photos, however, suddenly the iPhone 8 does not react to the volume control. I can hear sound but not change the volume and also not take photos.

Anyone who knows what the problem is and if it is a setting in the control that has changes?
