High Sierra Photos crashes, freezes up, retouch quits, makes fan run

Ever since upgrading to High Sierra, photos doesn't work properly. Editing is beyond useless. Retouch just doesn't work after using it 5 or 6 times on one photo. It slows to a crawl and if I try to crop or make an adjustment, that edit doesn't work and the fan starts running. I reported this to Apple over a month ago and haven't seen any updates that correct these issues. The last post I see on this issue is October, though when I reported it to Apple last month, they said it was a known issue and I could expect a fix. ????
