MBP Freeze @ login

MBP / 2012 - Freezing at login / progress bar at 100%. For 3 days I have used every key stroke suggested with no change. Macintosh HD was not mounted. I mounted ran first aid no issues. Still no change. I go back to utility and Mac is not mounted again. Can anyone advise?

MacBook Pro, iOS 11.1.2, I am a novice

Which 2012 MBP? The 13-inch non-Retina models (Apple calls them "Mid 2012") have of late developed an easily-fixed age issue with the hard drive cable but the 15-inch model may have different problems.

How did you run First Aid? By booting from the recovery partition or something else?
