cannot see gmail online contact from iPad

I have an iPad Pro with v. 11 software

I want to be able to login to a online Gmail account that I share and see the contacts without syncing them to my iPad contacts.

I can see the online Gmail contacts by clicking on the "To" in a new mail I am composing from my PC laptop or any other computer but not the iPad. Why and how to fix. thanks.

I do not want to combine the Gmail account contacts with my personal contacts on my iPad or iPhone
