Why does my pc say iTunes could not connect to. The iPhone because an error occurred while reading from the device

When I plug my iPhone 7plus into my pc I get the window coming up saying iTunes could not connect to iPhone because an error occurred while reading from the device.

could someone please tell me what is wrong.

restart computer, restart iPhone
