I can't make an auto scheme on Xcode's empty project

I am using the 2017 13" MacBook Pro base model and Xcode 9.2. whenever I tried to build the code that I have make, it says that it can't run on (null) scheme. I search it up online and what I found was to create an auto scheme but I tried the steps and it doesn't work. any other idea how to get the auto scheme to work? thank you.
