trashcan whited out on desktop

I have a macbook air. My trashcan is whited out on my desktop and will not open. I have trash showing in it but when I click to open it in order to empty, it shows no trash and will not open correctly. This just happened with last update? Anyone have a suggestion. Thank you

"Emptying the trash..." dialogue box hangs endlessly Hello, I have a 14" 2021 MacBook Pro on Ventura 13.1. Every time I empty the trash, the dialogue box just hangs there and says it's deleting endlessly. I have to manually cancel the process, and then my trash is successfully emptied. Does this no matter what's inside the trash - tried throwing in an empty folder and it did the same thing. Any suggestions on a fix?

'Empty Trash' greyed out despite files being in the trash I'm using a new, one week old MacBook Pro M1 Pro running the latest version of Monterey - I keep running into an issue where I'll put items in the trash but 'Empty Trash' is greyed out and the trash icon will not show as full, but clicking on the trash icon shows that there are files in it. Restarting the computer will temporarily resolve this, but it keeps happening not long after restart. Very frustrating for such basic functionality to be giving me consistent issues on such a new machine - any help would be much appreciated!
