I have a brand new macbook pro and a USB C multiport. When I connect my WD 20TB my book duo directly via Thunderbolt 3 the disk read write speeds are amazing.
However when I connect the external drive to the USB A connection on the multiport I get a 3mb/s write speed?
Does anyone know what the problem is?

Be sure your USB to USB-C adapter is for USB 3.0 and not 2.0. Check the inside of the USB side. It should have a blue colored block inside. If it's white then it's for USB 2.0. Check same for the cable between computer and external drive. If this is not the problem then contact WD's tech support. Still no help then make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Be sure to bring both pieces of hardware.
